An art director called and explained they were doing a pro bono project, a fund-raising brochure for Project Open Hand in San Francisco. Inspired by work of mine published in a Communication Arts photography annual she asked me to do the photography.

I was honored.

At that time Open Hand provided food and comfort to people with HIV and AIDS. People like Doris and her son Jared, in the photograph at left.

Today, Open Hand is still going strong and has expanded its mission to include helping homebound people who are over 60 or have critical illnesses.
